Golding Continues Impressive Bathurst Form in Trans Am
May 16, 2025

James Golding led the charge around Mount Panorama for Garry Rogers Motorsport in the Trico Trans Am Series, earning pole position and a race win to vault himself up in the series standings.
The second round of the series took place across a compressed weekend format, with just one practice session ahead of qualifying and a pair of 45-minute races.
With plenty of Bathurst success to fall back on, the GRM cars rolled out strong in practice with James Moffat posting the fastest time in his LMCT+ Mustang from Golding in second and Tom Davies in fourth. Lachlan Evennett was 18th, with red flags limiting the rookie’s practice to just 8 laps for his second ever Trans Am round, while Jordan Cox had his session sidelined by an electrical fault.
It was a sensational last-gasp flyer that earned Golding his second Trans Am Bathurst pole in as many attempts, with a 2:09.163s. Moffat lined up on the second row of the grid from fourth, with Davies ninth, Cox in 10th and Evennett 16th.
Race one ran to its full 45-minute duration, with Golding expertly defending the lead early on and looking unfazed by a late restart to claim his first race win of 2025. Cox wasted little time in making up for his interrupted start to the weekend, charging through to finish fifth in his Schaeffler Mustang.
Evennett also enjoyed a strong first Trans Am outing around the mountain, moving up five places to pick up 11th place. Davies had a strong top 10 run going, but a loss of power on the final restart relegated him down to 15th ahead of a recovering Moffat in 16th following an early incident.
Race two started with a frenetic battle for the race lead, with Cox pouncing to challenge for the lead alongside Golding. The duo were running second and third when the field came across a significant oil slick, which sent a host of cars scattering and ultimately red flagged the race.
Unfortunately, Cox wore the brunt of the unexpected slippery conditions and registered a DNF while Golding narrowly avoided the fence to end up fourth. Davies and Evennett both found the oil in lockstep as well; Davies was able to limp his car around to finish in 32nd but Evennett was unable to continue. Moffat was also classified down the order after a post-race penalty was handed out.
In the standings, it elevates Golding to third place with Davies still holding on to fifth place after his fast start in Tasmania. Cox is sixth despite battling his fair share of bad luck early, with Evennett 12th and Moffat 16th.
The third round of the season takes place at the Betr Darwin Triple Crown from June 20-22, which will be GRM’s first trek up north since 2022.
