James Moffat Locked in for Title Defence

Garry Rogers Motorsport has confirmed that James Moffat will return to defend his Trans Am title in 2024, in the Valvoline/LMCT+ Ford Mustang.

Moffat re-joined the GRM squad in 2019, spending three seasons in the Renault Megane TCR, and making his Trans Am debut in a one-off Sydney Motorsport Park appearance in 2021.

The Valvoline driver switched from TCR to Trans Am in 2023 and made an immediate impact as he clean swept the opening round of the season at Symmons Plains. Moffat went on to take seven victories and 15 podiums in a resounding maiden season that saw the 39-year-old claim the Trans Am title.

With the #1 on offer, Moffat has confirmed that he will continue to use his preferred #34 for the 2024 season. GRM have also acquired a brand-new chassis, which Moffat will steer.

The 2024 Trans Am season sees the category take in seven rounds, including a first ever visit to The Bend and a return to the Adelaide 500 as the season finale.

Moffat is the first driver to be announced from the GRM stable for 2024. The GRM Valvoline Combine runs from January 21-25, where more announcements will be made.

Sandown Raceway hosts the opening round of the season, from February 9-11 as part of the Shannons SpeedSeries.

“I’m looking forward to the year ahead. 2023 was pretty successful for us, but that’s behind us now and the job ahead is to perform at a high level once again,” said Moffat.

“It’s exciting to be back with the team and everyone at GRM, Valvoline and LMCT+. The calendar is shaping up as a strong one, a lot of the tracks we visited last year but some big additions as well. The Trans Am cars will be spectacular around Adelaide, not just for the drivers but fans as well, and it’s a big way to finish the year.

“First and foremost I’m just excited to get going at Sandown, we’re in a brand-new car so we’re looking to hit the ground running. You never take anything for granted in this sport, so hopefully we can pick up where we left off. The depth of talent in the field continues to improve year-on-year, there’s a really good mix of drivers in the field.

“If we do all the things right that we did last year, we should be competitive again throughout the season,” concluded Moffat.
