Tasman Series Sweep, Australian Drivers’ Championship Sealed in Adelaide
November 28, 2023
The season has wrapped up with an emphatic display at the Adelaide Street Circuit, which saw Aaron Cameron claim both the S5000 Championship and the Tasman Series.
The Valvoline driver claimed pole position, before going on to win all three races to secure both GRM and Cameron’s first Gold Star victory. With Adelaide solely hosting the 2023 Tasman Series, Cameron claimed his second Tasman Series title and the third in a row for GRM. Cameron also becomes just the third driver to win both titles in the same year.
In qualifying it was a tight fight for pole with Boys just 0.037 seconds back from Cameron, and Ben Bargwanna earning fourth on the grid. Nathan Herne was fifth in his return, ahead of Nic Carroll and Sebastien Amadio in sixth and ninth.
Boys joined Cameron on the podium in all three races, putting together a run of second place finishes to take second in the Tasman Series and climb to second in the Gold Star points. Bargwanna worked his way forward over the weekend, delivering a strong performance in the feature race to take third place and complete a podium sweep for GRM.
Herne ended his cameo with fourth place, having charged from the back of the field to the fringes of the podium across a limited number of racing laps in races two and three. Carroll challenged the top five all weekend, finishing the feature race in sixth just ahead of Amadio in seventh who picked up a number of places in the final race.
The final standings for the year see Cameron crowned Champion, ahead of Boys, for GRM’s second championship one-two in 2023. Carroll earns sixth in the points, with James Golding seventh (despite missing the final half of the year) and Bargwanna eighth (after missing the first three rounds). Kody Garland was 11th after contesting two rounds, with Amadio 14th from his two rounds and Herne 15th from his cameo.
