Freestone, Barbour Confirmed as Marcos Ambrose Motorsport Partners with Garry Rogers Motorsport
March 23, 2026

Marcos Ambrose Motorsport and Garry Rogers Motorsport have announced a trailblazing collaborative partnership for the 2026 Trans Am Cup Series.
MAM will field two cars in Trans Am, with perennial contender Elliot Barbour returning to the team in his Alpha Theta Camaro and Jordan Freestone making the step up to Trans Am following three seasons in the Toyota GR Cup.
The two cars will be housed at GRM’s Dandenong workshop, prepped and transported to the track by the multiple championship winning team. During race weekends, the two MAM cars will be crewed by a mix of team members from both sides while the drivers will benefit from a six-car pool of data and setup knowledge.
Barbour is one of the most experienced drivers on the Trans Am grid, having been a mainstay of the series since 2022. His best series result came one year later in 2023, with a fifth-place finish in the standings. Since then, Barbour has remained entrenched deep within the top 10 and become a regular podium finisher.
Freestone is coming off his best season of GR Cup racing where he finished fifth in the GR Cup series and took five wins in the Scholarship Series. After three years in the category, and a season of Aussie Racing Cars under his belt, Freestone is taking the next step with a move to one of Australia’s most competitive category’s in the Trans Am Cup Series.
The duo will be joined in the paddock by GRM’s four-car fleet – consisting of Jack Smith, Tom Davies, James Moffat and Lachlan Evennett.
Round one of the 2026 Trans Am Cup Series takes place as part of the Bathurst 6 Hour from April 3-5.

Marcos Ambrose
“GRM has been a big part of my racing life both in the early days and also these last few years. I have formed great trust and bond with the team and to be able to join my family-run team MAM with GRM is special. We are going to have a great year together as we support each other’s programs and have some fun along the way.
Elliot has shown me that he belongs in the big leagues and our goal is to provide him the right tools and environment to achieve his best. Jordan is a very exciting prospect who has shown a lot of potential already in GR cup and is on a development program which will benefit greatly from the MAM / GRM alliance.
MAM has a very balanced and talented driver paring which should surprise a few people. I can’t thank Barry Rogers and the Rogers family enough for the opportunity to team up with GRM.”
Barry Rogers
“I’m really pleased to be working with Marcos again and to be able to prepare his cars for two really strong drivers. I’ve really rated Elliot the last few years in Trans Am, and he’s one of those guys you’re always looking out for as you know he’s going to be there abouts. Bringing on a young guy like Jordan as well is right up Marcos’ ally and ours, so we’re really looking forward to it.”
Elliot Barbour
“I think I’ve had like eight or nine podiums in the category now but no wins, so that’s annoying. On paper we’ve got the best deal possible to have Marcos and GRM supporting me, I’m super excited and I’ve got no doubt the cars will be fast. We want to tick that box and get the first win, and then the goal is to try and win the whole thing.
I’ve played the mentor role a couple times over my career, and I don’t mind being that person helping the young guys out where I can. Jordy’s at the start of his career and on the way up, so I’ll be happy to help and try to get both Marcos Ambrose Motorsport and the GRM cars as far forward as we can.”
Jordan Freestone
“It’s a natural progression, Trans Am is the best option as it’s so competitive and where else would you want to prove yourself than in the hardest category. The cars are awesome, when you’re watching and they’re sliding around you think they’re going to be really hard to drive but in the car they’re so gripped up and responsive to what you want to do.
I got put on to Marcos by Paul Freestone, who I’m not directly related to but probably somewhere down the line, and he thought I was Paul’s son so that was a pretty funny introduction. Having Marcos in my corner is great as he has a world of knowledge in Australian and global motorsport. Then to link up Garry Rogers Motorsport who have so much experience with these cars, I think it’s going to be a great year for all six of us drivers.”
