Davies Scores Breakthrough in 2025 Trans Am Opener

Tom Davies has underscored his continued development in the Trico Trans Am Series, leading the charge for the Garry Rogers Motorsport stable of the cars in the opening round of the 2025 season as part of Hi-Tec Oils Race Tasmania.

It was a condensed two-day format to kick off the year, and one that brought about no rest for the team as we squeezed in four wild races across Saturday and Sunday! Just a single practice session was all we had, with James Moffat making an immediate impression to top the times.

Impressively, all five of our cars sat inside the top seven after the 30-minute session. That pace carried over to qualifying, with Moffat sticking his LMCT+ Mustang on the front row of the grid.

Lachlan Evennett was an astounding fourth in his first ever Trans Am qualifying, ahead of Jordan Cox in fifth, Tom Davies in seventh and James Golding in 11th.

A topsy turvy opening race was highlighted by a pair of superb drives through the field, Davies coming through to earn his first career podium in Trans Am with third place and just ahead of Golding who had picked up seven places.

Evennett continued his impressive debut in fifth, with Cox in sixth. Moffat had led early, but a broken axle relegated him to a 26th place finish.

In Race 2 it was Golding’s turn to feature on the podium with second place, while Davies finished fourth. Evennett and Golding were eighth and ninth, while Moffat charged from 26th to 12th.

Race 3 was highlighted by ‘the big one’ which brought about a red flag interruption, plenty of damage throughout the field and a sprint to the chequered flag. Davies returned to the podium in third place, with Moffat continuing his rise back up the order to finish in fourth. Evennett moved back forward to finish in sixth, while Cox and Golding both nursed damage on their way to 11th and 14th.

Cox surged his Schaeffler Mustang back towards the front with a fifth place finish in the final race of the weekend, just behind Moffat who picked up another fourth place result. Davies had run inside the top five all race until a frenetic final lap, and finished in eighth, but did enough to secure third overall for the round.

Golding ended the weekend in 24th due to a mechanical fault late in the race, while Evennett fortunately was able to walk away from a big accident on the opening lap of the race.

Round two of the 2025 Trico Trans Am Series takes place at the Hi-Tec Oils Bathurst 6 Hour, from April 18-20!
