Casha’s Maiden Win the Highlight in a Sunny Queensland Weekend

The Garry Rogers Motorsport TCR and Trans Am squads descended on Queensland Raceway for what was a beautiful weekend of racing, highlighted by a maiden race victory for Ryan Casha.

TCR Australia
The Supercheap Auto TCR Australia Series weekend got underway with a strong qualifying performance from Aaron Cameron who would start from fourth place for Race 1.

An excellent start vaulted the Valvoline driver to second place, which he would hold all the way to the chequered flag for his second podium finish of the season. Ben Bargwanna was across the line seventh, ahead of Jordan Cox who charged from 13th to 8th while Ryan Casha nursed his car home in 10th – earning pole for the reverse grid race.

Casha never looked back after launching off the line in Race 2 to hold the series lead, going on to record a lights-to-flag performance to secure his first ever win in the category. Cox shadowed Casha for much of the race, crossing the line to make it a GRM 1-2! A diving competitor resulted in damage to Bargwanna and Cameron, relegating them to 12th and 13th place finishes.

Cameron bounced back in the final race of the weekend, vaulting up to fifth place ahead of Cox in seventh, Bargwanna in eighth and 10th for Casha.

The results see Cox leap to third in the standings, while Bargwanna sits in fifth ahead of Casha in sixth and Cameron in eighth. The top six in the points are separated by just 60 points, with two rounds to go. The next round of Supercheap Auto TCR Australia will be at Sydney Motorsport Park from October 18-20.

Trans Am

It was a challenging yet consistent weekend for the Trico Trans Am squad, kicked off by a close qualifying session that saw James Golding line up in fourth for Race 1 ahead of Edan Thornburrow in fifth, James Moffat in eighth, Tom Davies in 13th and Brett Holdsworth in 16th.

The leading duo would hold their spots for the opening race of the weekend, while Moffat would pick up a spot to seventh despite carrying damage to the front of his Valvoline Mustang. Davies picked up three spots to finish in 10th, while Holdsworth finished 15th in his first race back.

Golding continued in fourth for Race 2, coming under fire from a charging Moffat who took the chequered flag in fifth. Thornburrow battled his way to a hard fought seventh with Holdsworth continuing to improve to 13th. Davies suffered from overheating issues which curtailed his efforts.

It came unstuck for Golding in the third race of the weekend, becoming stuck in third gear and requiring a trip through pit lane to rectify the issue. In his place Moffat would take fourth from Thornburrow in seventh and Holdsworth in 10th. Davies was able to fight up four spots to 16th despite more overheating problems.

The weekend wrapped up with a close-run inter-team affair with Moffat leading home Golding and Thornburrow for fifth, sixth and seventh. Holdsworth managed to score 11th despite being collected under yellow, while Davies wasn’t so fortunate after getting turned at the first corner.

The title is still well and truly up for grabs with two rounds remaining, Moffat now second in the points and only 32 points away from the top and Golding still well in contention from fourth place.

The Trico Trans Am Series returns to the track at the Supercheap Auto Bathurst International from November 8-10.
