Slade, Golding Join Forces for Trans Am Attack

James Golding and Tim Slade will both take on the 2024 National Trans Am Series, with the Supercars teammates linking up with support from Garry Rogers Motorsport.

It will be a category debut for Golding, who has previously only driven a handful of laps in Trans Am machinery. Slade made his debut at AWC Race Tasmania in 2023, driving for The Racing Academy, but switches to GRM for 2024 alongside his stablemate.

Golding has become a staple of the GRM driver line-up, dating back to the team’s time in Supercars and more recently as a regular in S5000. Golding has accumulated 25 podium finishes from his time in S5000, including seven race wins. In 2023 Golding hit the headlines after spectacularly going second fastest in qualifying for the Bathurst 1000, and then third in the ensuing top-10 shootout.

Slade also has an affinity for racing within the Shannons SpeedSeries, having made an S5000 appearance in the 2022 season-opener at Race Tasmania. The 38-year-old then made his Supercheap Auto TCR Australia debut in a one-off at Mount Panorama in 2022, before another one-off in 2023 at Queensland Raceway.

The veteran racer brings a vast amount of experience to the category, having amassed 17 podiums and winning two races so far in his Supercars career, amongst a raft of motorsport accomplishments.

The confirmation of Golding and Slade comes after James Moffat, with the trio set to provide extremely competitive competition to the young guns of the category. Golding and Slade get their first laps behind their GRM Ford Mustangs today at Winton.

Round one takes place from February 9-11 at Sandown Raceway as part of the Shannons SpeedSeries, all the action will be live and free on the Seven Network.

James Golding, #31 GRM Trans Am
“The main thing is just more racing, more laps, you have to race as many things as you can to stay sharp,” said Golding.

“There are no other categories that offer a similar opportunity to go racing in such a competitive environment, and the chance to continue developing my driving. I’ve cut a few laps in the car before, but my first real test will be today at Winton.

“GRM are the ones who really kick started my career, so it’s always awesome to be working with them. It’s an extremely comfortable environment to go racing in and the racing is always more enjoyable when you’re with a good group of people,” concluded Golding.

Tim Slade, #24 GRM Trans Am
“My main job is only 12 races across the year, so I’m ready to jump at any opportunity to get behind the wheel,” said Slade.

“I really enjoyed my first experience in the category last year, so when I was approached about doing this season, thanks to Frank Davies and Breeze Holiday Parks, I jumped at it,.

“Trans Am is a great learning category for some young drivers to come through and is good value for money as well. The cars are quite different to most other things, mainly due to the tyre they run on (Hoosier). So naturally you learn a lot, and having some experienced guys in the field is going to be a good yardstick for them.

“I’m looking forward to doing the year with GRM, Moff (Moffat) is a good mate and Jimmy (Golding) is my teammate so there’s a great relationship there. Garry and Barry (Rogers) are great characters, I like the way they go about it, they’re passionate about the sport and have provided a lot of opportunities for people over the years.

“Excited to get going and really enjoy the season,” concluded Slade.
