TCR and Trans Am Set for Queensland Showdown

Seven drivers will descend on Queensland Raceway for round four of the Supercheap Auto TCR Australia and Trans Am seasons this weekend, for Garry Rogers Motorsport.

Our Trans Am quartet were in electric form over the first three rounds of the season, and it’s James Moffat that leads the Championship by just nine points from Lochie Dalton in second. Owen Kelly is fifth and fighting back from a retirement at Phillip Island, however he’ll miss this round, while Edan Thornburrow is 14th after a spate of bad luck leading to two DNF results.

Moffat won the two races at Race Tasmania, Kelly won race one at Phillip Island and Dalton delivered an incredible weekend sweep at Winton. Thornburrow will be eager to earn his first series victory, and given his pace across the first three rounds, he’s surely not far away.

Last year, Moff’s chassis won all three races in Queensland, courtesy of Nathan Herne. Kelly fought back from early drama to finish on the podium twice, while Dalton cruised to three top five finishes.

Over in TCR it’s Jordan Cox who currently leads the way for our quartet in the Championship where he sits third, 19 points ahead of Aaron Cameron in fourth. Ben Bargwanna is sixth and Kody Garland is 10th. All four drivers have featured on the podium already this year, but Cameron has the only race win which came in Tasmania.

Cox was also leading the way this time last year, securing three top 10 finishes and ending the weekend fourth as our fastest driver in Queensland. Garland was also particularly quick around there in 2022, before he was plagued by mechanical gremlins, so look for him to rekindle that speed.

One more factor to watch out for this weekend will be the tweaked Trans Am format. The thunder V8’s will contest four races, as opposed to their normal three, because who doesn’t want even more racing action from Trans Am!
