Race Winton Weekend Preview

For the final time this year, our full fleet of cars descends on the same racetrack for a mega weekend of racing. S5000 and Trans Am are the drawcards to what’s billed as a V8 lover’s weekend, while TCR Australia will also feature as the headline act.

TCR are the only category to have raced at Winton previously, doing so in the category’s inaugural year in 2019. Two familiar names are still with GRM from that year, Jordan Cox who remains in our TCR stable, and James Moffat who now leads the Trans Am standings.

Cox comes into round three of the TCR season sitting second in the points, just one point up the road from Aaron Cameron in third. Ben Bargwanna is sixth in the standings, fresh from his second appearance in the TCR World Tour, at Spa-Francorchamps. Kody Garland is eighth in the points, two rounds into what’s only his second year in the category. The Peugeot quartet will be able to fall back on a wealth of knowledge in the databanks for GRM, with Winton one of our regular testing grounds.

Our Trans Am quartet will no doubt be door to door with each other again this weekend, with some extremely close racing highlighting the first two rounds of the season. Moffat is the series leader, over Lochie Dalton who is second and coming on extremely strong in his second year. Owen Kelly is fifth as a result of a DNF last time out, with Edan Thornburrow in 11th with a dose of bad luck coming his way early on in the season. All four drivers stood in the podium places at one point at Phillip Island, and they’ve virtually inseparable on the lap times…

Continuing to deal in four’s, our S5000 stable of drivers will race alongside TCR and Trans Am for the final time this season – which means the final weekend of double duty action for Cameron. James Golding is third in the points, but this will be his last planned round for the season, with the category featuring at Supercars events for the remainder of the year. Cameron is just 33 points behind in fourth, while Nic Carrol’s maiden season is progressing strongly as he sits in sixth. Jordan Boys is just behind in seventh, and the Albury-based driver will benefit from a home round this weekend.

The action will be frantic and non-stop, if you’re in Victoria, come on out for the weekend! If you’re watching on from home, Stan Sport will show every race live with 9Gem covering Saturday action from 2-5pm!
