S5000 Switch for Super3, Trans Am Star

23-year-old Nic Carroll will make his debut in S5000 at AWC Race Tasmania ahead of a full season with Garry Rogers Motorsport in the Australian Drivers Championship.

Carroll has not raced in open wheel machinery since 2017 when he competed in the Australian Formula Ford Series. In recent years Carroll has moved up the ladder, with starts in the Toyota 86 Series, Super3 and Trans Am.

After picking up a race win in the 2018 Toyota 86 Series, Carroll stepped up to the Super3 Championship where he earned five podiums and sixth place in the standings for Matt White Motorsport. Carroll returned to full-time racing in the 2022 Trans Am Championship, with five top five finishes after contesting all but the final round of the year.

Carroll joins GRM’s S5000 stable with plans to contest the full Australian Drivers Championship, alongside the previously announced Aaron Cameron. Carroll will be supported by Hogan Prestige Cars, Crown Windows, Hobart Power Sports, Motorsport Wheels and Tyres, GetFin Asset Finance and Valvoline.

“I’ve seen this category grow from its initial stages and I’m really excited by the physicality of the cars,” said Carroll.

“Everyone understands that they are one of if not the hardest cars to drive in the country, and they’re the fastest cars in Australia as well. I think that makes S5000 a really natural place to go and develop your talents as a driver.

“It will be my first time racing in the category, but I’ve done a couple of test days now to get my head around how they handle. I’m excited about the opportunity to race for GRM and I’m extremely thankful for all the help from Barry, Garry (Rogers) and Marcos (Ambrose). I’ve been around the team since about 2018 so there’s a lot of familiar faces for me to work with and it will be great to have that structure from a championship winning team.

“The split schedule between SpeedSeries rounds with Stan Sport and Supercars rounds with Fox Sports creates a great season for us as drivers and also our sponsors as well, I’m really looking forward to it,” concluded Carroll.

The S5000 season gets underway at AWC Race Tasmania from February 24-26, with GRM set to run three cars consisting of Aaron Cameron, Jordan Boys and Carroll.
